Course Outline:
This course is designed to provide the individual with the knowledge and skill to identify a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation with young people and children and when and how to support and guide those young people to professional help.
Please note that individuals will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will be able to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.
Course Content:
• Understand and define what mental health is
• Understand the stigma surrounding mental health
• Why young people develop mental health conditions
• The role of a First Aider for Mental Health
• How to diagnose and manage stress
• How to recognise a range of mental health conditions
• Understand and develop a first aid action plan
• Understanding of legal consent and safeguarding responsibilities
Suitable For:
All employees who as part of their working duties associate with (or have the potential to) young people or children susceptible to mental health issues/complications. Also, those requiring further knowledge and understanding for the recognition of mental health issues which could include eating disorders, bullying and self-harm.
