Course Outline:
This course is designed to provide the individual with the knowledge recognise a range of mental health conditions and learn about the support and therapy provided by professional healthcare providers. They will know how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek professional help. Work related mental health issues must be assessed to measure the levels of risk to staff. Where a risk is identified, steps must be taken to remove it or reduce it as far as reasonably practicable.
Please note that individuals will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will be able to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.

• Understand the stigma surrounding mental health
• Why young people develop mental health conditions
• The role of a First Aider for Mental Health
• Provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition
• How to diagnose and manage stress
• Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health
• Understand and develop a first aid action plan
• Implementation of a positive mental health culture in the workplace.
• Recognise and understand a range of mental health disorders and the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers

Managers and Supervisors who as part of their working duties associate with (or have the potential to) people who are susceptible to mental health issues/complications and are able to make positive influences and changes to the business.
