This course educates employers on their legal duties for controlling legionella risk in domestic hot and cold-water systems, following regulatory requirements such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations and Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations and L8 Legionella Approved Codes of Practice.

To provide you with an overview of legionella bacteria risk and how it can be controlled in hot and cold-water systems in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Course Content
The content of the Legionella Management and Control course includes:
• Knowledge of the origins of legionellosis, Legionnaires’ disease, Legionella bacteria, and the multiplication factors that allow it to proliferate in engineered water systems;
• The specific role of the appointed competent person, known as the “Responsible Person” and the statutory “Duty Holder”;
• An overview of the primary safety regulations including COSHH;
• A review of the HSE ACOP L8 document “Legionnaires’ disease: Control of legionella bacteria in water systems”;
• A review of the HSE document HSG274 Part 2 – “Legionnaires’ disease – Technical guidance: The control of legionella bacteria in hot and cold-water systems”;
• A review of the HSE document HSG274 Part 3 – “Legionnaires’ disease – Technical guidance: The control of legionella bacteria in other risk systems”;
• Practical skills for monitoring and inspecting hot and cold-water systems;
• Learning from case studies; and
• Examination – assessment and test of competence.
